Come celebrate decades of aquatic fun and be part of history with the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association’s Historic 50th Anniversary Event, Nov. 17, 2012, in Charlotte Harbor.
All boaters, residents and those with a curiosity are invited to attend the nautical celebration. Boaters can anchor off Gilchrist Park or tie to a Laishley Mooring Ball. Best of all, admission is free.
Boaters can participate in the historic aerial photograph to be taken at 11 a.m. followed by a picnic at Laishley Park with music by Tim Goodman and Roseanne. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
Don’t have a boat? No worries! Participate in a unique, 700-person human sculpture photo.
At 5:30 p.m., the party shifts to Fishermen’s Village for the annual “Lighting of the Village” where more than a million lights twinkle away through the holidays. Come kick off the holiday shopping season in festive style with a parade by Lee County Pipes & Drums, Dickens Carolers from Charlotte Chorale, String of Pearls Barbershop Harmony, and tons of kid’s activities including a balloon man, airbrush art for the face and body and visits with Santa.
Village merchants will offer complimentary refreshments and for a nominal fee, horse drawn carriage rides will be available from Riding Star Ranch. In Center Court, the Boogiemen Band will perform 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is a canned good to be donated to the Good Samaritans Food Pantry.
